Keep a Change Log for Home Improvements

Make the chronology visible before looking for effects.

Understand the distinction

Several changes made close together can be hard to separate when reviewing later records. A change log helps identify what happened and when. It does not prove which alteration caused a consumption or comfort difference.

Put it in your home notes

Record the scope, completion date and source documents for each change. Add substantial occupancy or routine changes separately. When examining a trend, treat the chronology as context for further assessment rather than evidence that every difference has one known cause.
